I used to shock friends with the amount of money I was willing to drop at a dinner out. But with the way prices are going everywhere, I’m definitely beginning to shock myself as well.

I’m actually fine with the smaller portion sizes that are more common now, as British friends always commented on how insane American portions tended to be in restaurants. I just wish the prices weren’t climbing so insanely at the same time. I applaud quality ingredients.

I applaud fresh and local ingredients. But I would suspect that even if personal buying trends emphasize local quality (theoretically driving prices down) we will never see chefs willing to compromise additional profits.
